Project PH is a group of musicians brought together by former session bassist Yolanda Charles. Awarded an MBE for services to music in 2020, she has had a long career backing artists such as Hans Zimmer, Squeeze, Dave Stewart, Robbie Williams and Paul Weller.

The Musicians

Project pH features the skills of London-based guitarist Nick Linnik, who provides a stunning display of highly compelling soloing. An original member of the 3-piece band “Derek Trotson” described as “irregular jazz/prog/funk/rock”, guitarist producer Linnik adds composing skills to the INSTRA_MENTALS for their debut album to be completed in 2024

With extensive training in Classical, Jazz and contemporary music including composing and production skills, Hamish Balfour brings his prodigious talents to the band and superb soloing style to Project PH’s live performances.
Hailing from a remote town in northeast France, Nicolas Py began drumming professionally from age 14. He spanned the genres : funk, metal, jazz. He is an original member of funk-rock band Second Brain. Nicolas also drums for indie-rock band Spector pop angel Gia Ford, blues musicians Lachy Doley and Felix Rabin and modern pop singer Elli Ingram.

Known for his extensive vocal range with a sound influenced by artists such as Prince, D’Angelo, Maxwell and Terence Trent D’arby. Paris Ruel’s strong performance style caught Yolanda’s attention at another London jam session and he has been a band member since the early days. https://www.instagram.com/parisruel/

North London vocalist Adeola Shyllon was invited to complete the Project pH line-up just before Lockdowns. She brings her warm powerful tones influenced by years of singing London-based Nigerian Yoruba music in church and having an eclectic career supporting various artists such as Emeli Sandé & Vanessa Haynes with her versatile voice. https://www.instagram.com/adeolashyllon/

This line-up features the core PH musicians, Yolanda, Nick, Hamish & Nico with the material composed firmly in the ‘Fusion’ genre.

Graeme Blevins joins the band as special guest on Saxophone
Project pH Instra_mentals features additional composition skills of London-based guitarist Nick Linnik, who provides a stunning display of highly compelling soloing as well as being the co-producer and co-writer of the band’s Funk-Fusion sound. Pianist Hamish Balfour trained in both classical & jazz and as a dance music producer gives him the perfect mix of skills for the band sound. On drums, Nicolas Py has recently joined the lineup and adds his solid fresh ‘n funky style to the rhythm section and Graeme Blevins joins the band as a guest on tenor saxophone.
The group has a long-running Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club residency and continues to tour the UK and beyond
